Megalosaurus holds the honor of being the very first non-avian dinosaur ever given an official name, way back in 1824. Though much about this prehistoric predator remains unknown, scientists do know it was a carnivore that could reach lengths of around 30 feet. This formidable hunter roamed the Earth approximately 166 million years ago, during the Jurassic Period.
