Saltasaurus

Saltasaurus may have been considered small for a sauropod, but at nearly 30 feet long, it was still an impressive giant by today’s standards. What made this long-necked herbivore especially unique was its protective covering of bony osteoderms—small, armor-like plates embedded in its skin. This rare feature gave Saltasaurus an extra layer of defense, making it one of the few armored sauropods ever discovered. Living in what is now South America, Saltasaurus blended its signature long neck with surprising protection, proving even plant-eaters had to stay prepared in the age of dinosaurs.
